Debora was born in Newfoundland where music and theatre were all around her. Her training in both voice, piano and dance began when she started school and continued all the way through high school and beyond. Debora holds an Honours Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of Toronto as well as a Master of Fine Arts degree in directing from York University. She has trained with master voice teachers David Smukler, Kristin Linklater, Patsy Rodenburg and master singing teachers, Mary Morrison, Patricia Kern and Richard Armstrong.

A member of Canadian Actors' Equity for 25 years, Debora spent five seasons at the Stratford Festival, where she was a Tyrone Guthrie Award winner. Equally at home in plays, musicals or contemporary opera, Debora has also performed throughout Canada in many productions including THE BELLE OF AMHERST (Emily Dickinson), EVITA (Evita), THE AFFECTIONS OF MAY (May), and the Toronto premiere of the contemporary opera THE BOILER ROOM SUITE (Aggie Rose). Her directing credits include OUR COUNTRY'S GOOD, COLOURS IN THE STORM and her own adaptation of HENRY V (York University), I DO! I DO! (Theatre Brockville), and the premiere of HARD HATS - THE MUSICAL (Lighthouse Festival). Her musical direction credits include THREEPENNY OPERA (York University) and VINEGAR TOM (Players' Academy).

In 1993, she headed the voice department at the University of Windsor and discovered her love for group teaching in a college and/or university setting. Since then, she has taught at York University, Atkinson College, Sheridan College, Erindale College (U of T), Theatre Ontario and at Equity Showcase. She has been on the faculty of the George Brown Theatre School for the past seven years, teaching voice in each of the three years of training.

Her teaching method has evolved through years of performing, directing, teaching and coaching. She has experienced first-hand the audition, rehearsal and performance processes and pressures. She has developed voice exercises and strategies for each of these demanding aspects of a performer's life. As a director, she understands the need to follow the "rules of the game", and can help the performer become comfortable with any period or style requirements. Debora has a wealth of teaching and coaching experience which gives her flexibility and versatility with her work. She is able to come to the work from many different points of view, depending on the background, challenges and desires of each student.

Debora lives in the Beaches area in Toronto with her husband, Misha, and her seven year old son, Nikolas.
